Zulian's Voice Overs

Your character finally has something to say. Zulian's Voice Overs gives your spells a real human voice. Every time you successfully cast a supported spell, you'll hear a custom voice line recorded for that spell. It turns the quiet clicking of rotations and heals into something that feels alive, personal and a little ridiculous.

Every line is recorded by Zulian and cleaned up in the studio, so all clips play at the same volume and none of them drown out your game audio.

What it does

Voice lines for your spells

  • Cast Mind Blast, Shadow Word: Pain, Power Word: Shield, Renew, Shield Slam, Charge, Fireball, Frostbolt, Consecration, Stealth and more, and you'll hear a voice line for that spell right as it goes off.
  • Lines play only when the cast actually succeeds. Interrupted or failed casts stay silent, so it never spams you.
  • Sounds can overlap. When you chain spells quickly, lines stack naturally instead of cutting each other off.
  • Priest (56 spell lines across Shadow, Holy and Discipline), Warrior (42), Mage (55 across Arcane, Fire and Frost), Paladin (53 across Holy, Protection and Retribution) and Rogue (33 across Assassination, Combat and Subtlety) are voiced: 239 spell lines in all. Other classes are being added in updates.
  • The addon checks your class when you log in and only uses that class's lines.

Different lines for the same spell

  • A spell can have several recorded takes. The addon picks one at random each time, and never the same one twice in a row, so the spells you cast all day don't get repetitive.

Rare variants

  • Some spells can have special "rare" lines that pop up now and then in place of the usual one (5% of casts by default, adjustable in the settings). Because a rare line is a surprise, the spells you cast all day stay fun.

Critical hit effect

  • Your crit has a voice line, and landing crits back to back builds a crit chain (ten recorded lines, Crit chain 1 to 10): each crit in a row plays the next, more intense voice line, while the on-screen text climbs from BIG NUMBER! to HUGE, GIANT and all the way up to APOCALYPTIC (and grows with it). Pause for a few seconds and the chain starts over. The words are editable.
  • When you land a critical strike, a special crit line plays. The edges of your screen flash with purple smoke, and a big "BIG NUMBER!" pops up in the middle.
  • Every part of the effect can be changed in the settings (see below).

Loot sound

  • A short sound plays when you loot a corpse. It plays only once per corpse, so looting doesn't turn into noise.

Settings panel

Open it from the game's AddOns settings, or by typing /zvo options.

  • Change the font, size, color and wording of the crit text. For example, change "BIG NUMBER!" to anything you like.
  • Pick the color of the smoke flash. There are presets (Shadow Purple, Holy Gold, Fel Green, Blood Red and Frost Blue) plus a full color picker.
  • Choose which game sound channel the voice lines use (Master, Sound Effects, Dialog, Ambience or Music). That lets you use WoW's own volume sliders to make the voices louder or quieter than the rest of the game.
  • The settings are organized in tabs (General, Sound, Crit Effect, Spell Voices, Advanced), all with tooltips.
  • Turn spell lines, rare variants, the crit sound, crit chain, the crit flash, the crit text and the loot sound on or off separately.
  • Give spell lines, crits and loot their own sound channel, so you can balance how loud each one is.
  • Search your class's spells and switch single voice lines off, or preview them.
  • Preview the crit effect, back up your settings as a line of text, and reset everything to defaults with one click.
  • Your settings are saved between sessions.

Commands

  • /zvo options opens the settings.
  • /zvo test plays a sample voice line. /zvo test <spell name> plays the line for that spell and shows which take played.
  • /zvo test crit previews the crit effect, and /zvo test loot plays the loot sound.
  • /zvo on and /zvo off turn the whole addon on or off.
  • /zvo status shows how many spells have voice lines.

Coming soon

  • Voice lines for the remaining classes (Hunter, Shaman, Warlock and Druid), plus racial spells.
  • Lines for things that happen in the game: logging in, getting a kill, dying, leveling up, and low health and mana warnings.

Compatibility

Made for World of Warcraft: Forever. It's lightweight: it only listens for your own successful casts, crits and looting, and it doesn't change any part of the default interface.
