NKThreat

NKThreat is a lightweight, high-performance threat meter and combat analyzer for Classic Era (incl. Season of Discovery & Hardcore), TBC Anniversary, MoP Classic, and WoW Forever.

⚠️ Note on WoW Forever

WoW Forever runs under Retail addon restrictions: the client hands addons secret values instead of real numbers (threat, buffs, unit comparisons) and blocks addon chat and the combat log. NKThreat detects this and degrades gracefully, but some features behave differently or are unavailable there:

  • Threat numbers may be hidden in boss fights or on restricted maps. Bars, mini graph, differential mode, TPS/ETA and the analyzer show only what the client exposes; nameplate overlays fall back to the threat state (safe / danger / tanking).
  • Tank mode on the target and focus bar may show "Lead: safe / lost" instead of a percentage.
  • Announcements, duplicate avoidance and the version check need addon chat and do not work.
  • Salvation check and buff-based features (Bloodlust overlay) are unavailable; taunt and Misdirection tracking uses unit events instead of the combat log and may miss details.

Classic Era, TBC Anniversary and MoP Classic are not affected. The options pages mark every feature the current client cannot provide.

Why NKThreat?

Originally started during WoW Classic in 2019 (formerly DKPThreat), when trustworthy and performant threat meters were scarce and most alternatives relied on bulky Ace3 libraries. NKThreat uses custom, purpose-built systems instead — small memory footprint, fast load, no allocations in the update loop, no external dependencies beyond a few tiny embedded libs.

Supported Clients

  • Classic Era — including Season of Discovery (rune taunts are tracked) and Hardcore; focus bar features are hidden automatically
  • TBC Classic Anniversary — the primary, most-tested client
  • MoP Classic — including Death Knight and Monk support (taunts, specializations, role detection)
  • WoW Forever — early support for the Forever beta; see the note above, several features are limited by the client's addon restrictions

The addon detects your client and uses the right spells, classes, and thresholds — no separate downloads, no configuration needed.

Highlights

  • Threat window — movable, resizable, lockable bar list with class colors, off-tank coloring, pull-aggro bar, raid icons, compact mode, collapse/expand, and a dockable toolbar
  • Mini graph — chromeless live HUD graph of the last 5–60 s of threat on your target or focus
  • Multi-target threat grid — HUD matrix showing every group member's threat on every enemy at once
  • Target & focus bars — standalone bars showing your threat as a percentage of the pull threshold, with tank mode and "missing threat until pull"
  • Fight analyzer — post-fight line graph per player per enemy with event timeline, death markers, Bloodlust overlay, and aggro threshold line
  • Nameplate overlays — threat difference and rank next to enemy nameplates
  • Alerts & announcements — threat warnings, taunt failure detection, Salvation check, auto-announcements
  • Profiles — per character, or switched automatically by talent spec
  • Key bindings for every window and toggle

Threat Tracking

  • Real-time threat polling for all party/raid members and pets
  • Pull-aggro detection with class-specific melee/ranged thresholds (110% / 130%), measured against the actual target or focus
  • Configurable update interval (0.05s – 1.0s)
  • TPS (rolling average, 1–10s) and ETA to Aggro columns
  • Differential mode — show "+12.4k" / "-3.1k" relative to the aggro holder or the pull threshold instead of absolute threat

Mini Graph (Live)

  • While DPSing: your threat, the aggro holder, and the pull threshold; while tanking: your threat, optionally the 2nd and 3rd highest, and the pull lines
  • Class-colored lines with optional fills, legend, threat scale, and event icons (taunts, deaths, aggro changes, Misdirection, Vanish, Feign Death, Bloodlust) — no fight recording needed
  • Lock, hide out of combat, content scaling, test mode preview

Target & Focus Threat Bars

  • Your threat as a percentage of the pull threshold, with a 100% marker line and 6 color presets
  • Tank mode — when you are the tank, the bar shows your buffer against the runner-up
  • Missing threat until pull — the exact threat you can still deal before ripping aggro, e.g. "85% +12.4k"

Multi-Target Threat Grid

  • One row per player × one column per nearby enemy, auto-discovered from boss frames and group targets
  • Color-coded cells: safe / warning / danger / tanking / no data
  • Scales up to 25 players × 10 enemies

Fight Analyzer

  • Records threat on every enemy in the pull, not just your target
  • Event timeline for taunts (success/fail), aggro switches, deaths, Vanish, Feign Death, Misdirection; Bloodlust/Heroism as overlay; death markers; optional aggro threshold line
  • Boss and trash fights kept separately with their own history and age limits; trash is recorded at reduced detail, so long AoE pulls never bloat SavedVariables
  • Fight list with Boss/Trash tags, age, filters, and pinning — pinned fights are never pruned
  • Boss recordings continue after your own death, Feign Death or Vanish instead of splitting
  • Disabled by default — enable in the Analyzer settings

Nameplate Overlays

  • Threat difference text next to each enemy nameplate, color-coded by proximity
  • Optional rank display (#1, #2, …) with multiple positioning modes
  • Customizable font, colors, thresholds, background, and border

Alerts & Announcements

  • Screen flash + sound when your threat exceeds a configurable threshold
  • Taunt failure detection (IMMUNE, RESIST, …) for every taunt on your client, including pet, SoD rune, Death Knight and Monk taunts — chat, on-screen, sound, and flash channels
  • Salvation check (Era / TBC) — warns when you tank with Blessing of Salvation, or fight without it as DPS/healer while a Paladin is in the group
  • Auto-announcements for taunt fails and Misdirection / Tricks of the Trade with template placeholders ({source}, {target}, {spell}, {reason}, {rt1}–{rt8})
  • Announce by role (own casts, whole group, or only as leader/assistant/tank) and no duplicates when several NKThreat users are in one group
  • Channel fallback: RAID_WARNING → RAID → PARTY → INSTANCE_CHAT

Profiles & Customization

  • Create, switch, copy, reset profiles per character; auto profile by spec maps each talent tree to a profile
  • Every window, bar, color, font, and threshold is configurable in a modern dark-theme settings UI
  • LibSharedMedia support for fonts, bar textures, and sounds
  • Test mode with animated fake data — configure everything without being in combat
  • Error log (/nkt errors) with deduplication, per-area toggles, and BugSack forwarding

Localization

English, German, French, and Spanish.
