# LoreVault
The story of classic Azeroth, right inside the game.
## What is LoreVault?
LoreVault is an in-game lore book. Open it from the minimap and read the history of Azeroth: its events, characters, places, factions and legendary items, from the titans to the start of the classic era. There are almost 800 short, easy-to-read entries, and every name in them is a link to its own page. Major entries have a longer "full story" too.
The lore also comes to you while you play. Enter a city and a banner tells you its story. Hover over Thrall and his tooltip tells you who he is. Pick up a quest that mentions Kel'Thuzad and a Lore button appears next to it.
## Features
### Read the story
- Timeline: the history of Azeroth in order, grouped into five eras, from the titans and the War of the Ancients to the Third War and the uneasy peace after it.
- Characters, places, factions, artifacts and magic: every major name of the classic story, from Thrall and Jaina to Ragnaros, Onyxia and C'Thun, plus every zone, dungeons, bosses, legendary items, the peoples you meet on the road, and where the powers of each class come from.
- The full story: a longer, step-by-step telling of the biggest stories, like Arthas, Thrall, Illidan and the War of the Ancients.
- Expansion lore: The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm, from Illidan's fall to the death of Deathwing. Pages of characters you know show what happened to them next. On WoW: Forever this lore is hidden until you choose to unlock it, so nothing gets spoiled.
- Everything is linked: hover a gold name to preview it, click it to open it. The Back button takes you back the way you came.
- Appears in: every entry lists the events and entries that mention it, so you can follow a character's whole story.
- Quest chains: 26 of classic WoW's great lore questlines explained step by step, from Onyxia's attunement to the Scepter of the Shifting Sands.
- Bosses: every named boss of the classic dungeons and raids, and each dungeon's page lists who you'll face.
- On the timeline: every character and place page lists the events they took part in, in order. A visual timeline shows all of history from left to right.
- Story paths: 21 guided reading lists, like "The Fall of Arthas" or "Secrets of the Old Gods". Each page shows which step you're on and links to the next one.
- Search, filters, bookmarks and personal notes: find anything by name or nickname (try "Lady Prestor"), save favorites, and write your own notes on any entry.
- Read aloud: have any entry read to you with the game's text-to-speech.
### Lore while you play
- Dungeon briefings: enter a dungeon or raid and a card tells you its story and the bosses ahead, with the Adventure Guide's painting.
- Story so far: hand in a quest from a lore questline and a card tells you what just happened in the story and what comes next.
- Boss epilogues: defeat a boss and a card tells you what your victory meant. Its page is marked as defeated.
- Quest chain button: when a quest or the character you're talking to is part of a lore questline, a button takes you to its story.
- Place banners: a short banner when you enter a city, zone or dungeon that has lore. You choose how often it shows.
- Character tooltips: hover famous characters to see who they are. Alt+click them to open their page.
- Quest lore: a Lore button appears on quests that mention a character, place or event in LoreVault.
- Legendary items: hover Sulfuras, Thunderfury, Atiesh or the Ashbringer to see their story.
- World map: book pins mark places with lore, and a "Lore on this map" button lists everything connected to the zone.
### Collect and learn
- Discovery: places are discovered when you visit them and characters when you meet them. Progress bars show how much you've read and found.
- 27 lore achievements, each with a checklist of what's still to go.
- Daily quiz with a streak to keep up, and a Lore of the Day when you log in.
- Share in chat: Shift+click an entry to post it. Other LoreVault users can click it to open the same page.
### Your way
- Every feature can be turned on or off, and one switch turns off all notifications.
- Settings are grouped by feature, with window size, text size and reading speed.
- Minimap button with a quick menu. Works with Titan Panel and minimap button bags.
- Spoiler-friendly: the lore is told as the world stands at the start of the classic era, so raid stories are threats still waiting for heroes.
