Keep your conversations close without losing track of the game. Grimlight Messages gives character and Battle.net whispers their own compact windows in World of Warcraft Forever, with a combined conversation browser when you prefer everything in one place.

What it does

• Open individual conversation windows by default, or choose a combined window.
• Keep retained conversation history, unread indicators and a searchable conversation browser.
• Minimize conversations to the minimap and restore them from the conversation list.
• Group windows into tabs, move and resize them, and adjust fading, opacity and text size.
• Recall sent text with Up/Down and send with Enter.
• Use player-clicked shortcuts for native social actions and profession links where the client allows them.
• See your Battle.net friend's active character and class, with character shortcuts when they are on your WoW world and faction. Ordinary replies stay on Battle.net; profession links whisper the verified character. Known characters on another version, region, world or faction keep their identity visible with disabled controls and a reason; unavailable or ambiguous targets cannot trigger character actions.
• Configure pop-up, focus and visibility preferences for different situations, including combat.

Getting started

Install the addon in your Forever client's Interface/AddOns folder and enable it. Start a whisper with the game's /w, Reply action or a player-name click. Type /r and press Enter to reopen the last incoming whisper, even with all conversation windows closed. A trailing space works too, and /rl remains available. Conversation inputs show a blinking caret aligned with the insertion point.

Drag a window to move it and use its corner grip to resize. Click Close to minimize; Shift-click Close to end the open conversation while retaining its history. Shift-drag one conversation onto another to group tabs. Tab cycles grouped conversations. Idle windows fade and brighten when you hover or type.

Left-click the minimap button for the conversation list and right-click it for tools. Shift-right-click shows unread conversations; Shift-left-click marks conversations read.

Commands

• /gmsg - toggle the combined conversation browser.
• /gmsg Name - open a conversation with a character.
• /gmsg reply - open the last whisper conversation.
• /gmsg windows or /gmsg combined - choose the conversation style.
• /gmsg show, /gmsg hide and /gmsg unread - manage visible conversations.
• /gmsg settings - open preferences.
• /gmsg diag - show session diagnostics.

Key bindings are available in the game's AddOns category.

History, privacy and native chat

Conversation history, preferences and window placement are stored locally in normal SavedVariables. History is bounded to 250 messages per conversation and 150 conversations per character. Clearing retained history requires confirmation.

Battle.net character presence is refreshed from native friend data and kept only for the current session. Changing characters keeps the account conversation and draft intact. Actions recheck the character at the time of the click; ignoring requires confirmation of that specific character. A profession link whispers the verified character, and its server confirmation appears in the Battle.net conversation where you clicked the button without opening a second character window. Other character conversations retain their separate histories.

Who runs only from the location/Who button or its explicit Look up again action. Opening, focusing, reopening and replying to conversations never starts a lookup, even with the former automatic-lookup preference saved. Incoming messages, timers and hovering do not send chat or query Who. Outgoing history follows the server's confirmation echo. Protected or unreadable messages remain in normal chat; the addon does not attempt to reveal hidden text. Combat restrictions and native social-action permissions still apply.

Personal conversations and saved settings are never included in the addon download. Do not upload SavedVariables or unredacted chat screenshots when requesting help.

Compatibility and optional integrations

This project targets WoW Forever, interface 16001 / game version 1.60.1. The current Release is player-tested on this client. Other WoW editions are not currently supported.

No other addon is required. Separately installed EllesmereUI supplies optional styling, with a standalone appearance available. Grimlight Enchanting optionally supplies a validated enchanting profession link. Neither integration is bundled.

Support and updates

Use this project's CurseForge comments for bugs and suggestions. Include the addon version, Forever client version, steps to reproduce and any Lua errors. Describe whether the problem affects individual windows, grouped tabs or the combined browser. Remove private names and messages from screenshots or reports.
