Forever Dungeons
Retail has the Adventure Guide. Classic never did, and neither does Forever.
This is my take on one.
Not the first
There are already good dungeon addons, and this is not trying to be the most complete of them. It is trying to look like it shipped with the game.
Forever ships a modern UI, which (don't hate) I've quite enjoyed so far (this is coming from a long time ElvUI and recent EUI user). This addon is built out of it — it is an excercise in attempting to create an addon that complements and blends in seamlessly with the default (modern) UI.
Three modes
A retail feature dropped into Classic unchanged hands you the whole world on the first evening, so you pick how much the journal tells you.
- Chronicle — everything, whether you have been there or not.
- Adventure — it fills in as you travel. You hear of a place when you are nearly ready for it, and a boss you have not met is a silhouette.
- Hardcore — only what you have seen with your own eyes. An arrow, and it will not say where it leads.
Contents
Dungeons — a compendium of every dungeon in the game.*
Locations — an on-screen arrow to the selected dungeon's entrance, plus map and minimap pins.
Bosses — rosters, portraits and abilities.*
Loot — what drops and from whom, filterable by boss and by item type.*
Quests — to come.
* Still being built. The dungeon list is complete; portraits, rosters, abilities and loot are not. Open a dungeon whose pages are not written yet and it says so.
A note on AI
I used AI to assist the development of this addon, in the same capacity I use it in my day job as a software developer.
AI was also used to generate some of the assets — the boss portraits in particular. I tried as hard as I could to keep them in the Classic/Forever artstyle rather than letting them drift into something that would look wrong next to the game's own art.
Everything else belongs to Blizzard: the frames, the fonts, the atlases and the instance artwork, used the way any interface addon uses them.
Commands
/dungeons— open the browser/dungeons mode— switch between Chronicle, Adventure and Hardcore/dungeons inspect— what the addon measured off your client, which is the useful thing to paste into a bug report/dungeons help— everything else
Feedback
Corrections are welcome in the comments — if a boss drops something this does not list, or a roster is wrong, say so.
