Forever Auction Master

At the Auction House, it learns prices. Everywhere else, it remembers them.

No search box, no scan button, no groups, no operations, no settings screen.

At the Auction House

Prices arrive on their own, two ways:

By browsing. Search or click a category and those results already carry a price for every item on screen. The addon simply reads them. It costs no extra lookups at all — shopping normally is what fills your cache.

By hovering. Hover an item while the auction window is open and it gets looked up quietly in the background. Anything you already saw while browsing is skipped, because it's already current.

Everywhere else

Out in the world, in your bags, at a vendor, on a quest reward — hover an item you've previously seen at the Auction House and the tooltip shows what it was going for.

  • Auction House — so you know where the numbers came from
  • The price — cheapest buyout when it was last seen, and how long ago that was
  • How deep the market is — how many separate auctions, and how many units across all of them
  • N in bags — what your whole pile is worth at that price

Prices show in real gold/silver/copper coin icons. The stack row appears only when you're carrying more than one. Every price carries its age, so you always know how much to trust it, and anything older than two weeks is discarded rather than shown to you with false confidence.

An item it has never seen shows nothing. It doesn't guess, and it doesn't invent a number to fill the space. Soulbound and quest items show nothing either — they can never be posted, so there's no price to report and the game's own tooltip already tells you why.

What it doesn't do

  • Doesn't scan. No full sweeps, no waiting, no progress bar.
  • Doesn't upload anything, anywhere. Everything it learns stays in your own saved variables.
  • Doesn't need configuring. There is nothing to configure.
  • Doesn't bundle libraries. Two Lua files and a TOC. No dependencies.
  • Won't trip the Auction House search throttle, however fast you move the mouse. It also never wastes a lookup on something soulbound.

Known issue on the current Forever beta

Prices don't survive restarting the game. The client writes addon saved data correctly when you log out but never reads it back at launch, so the cache starts empty each session.

This affects every addon on this client, not just this one — it was reproduced with a five-line test addon that does nothing but count launches — and there's nothing an addon can do about it from inside the game.

In practice it matters less than it sounds. Browsing the Auction House refills the cache at a few hundred items a minute, and prices persist across /reload as normal. This should simply start working once the client does.
