CONTESTED

The Contested Zones Are At War Again

"When you need to be Rdy, be Hated."

๐Ÿ” About the Addon

Contested puts the Alliance and the Horde back at war over the open world, on retail WoW and on WoW Forever. You fight over real places like The Crossroads, Astranaar, Southshore and Darkshire. Every capture point you hold pushes your faction's control of the zone, and the side that holds the most zones takes the front.

It is also a full RP-PvP addon. Turn on RP Mode and your group leader sends the raid on story adventures written around Warcraft lore. You ride out with orders, play a scene in the world, then fight for a real capture point to find out how the chapter ends. A lore library covering all 22 zones ships inside the addon, so whoever leads always knows the history of the ground they are standing on.

Nobody can cheat the scoreboard. A capture or a kill only counts when your own game saw it happen, or when enough independent, verified players saw it too. A crafted addon message can't move the war.

Perfect for:

  • RP-PvP guilds and raid leaders who want a story to lead their people into
  • World PvP groups looking for something worth fighting over
  • Guilds that want their name on the standings
  • Levelers who'd like their trip through the Barrens to matter to their faction

๐Ÿ“œ RP Mode: Stories That End in a Real Fight

RP Mode is optional and works on both clients. Turn it on with /contest rp and open the Adventure panel with /contest adventure.

How a chapter plays

  1. The group leader begins a chain. Everyone in the group with RP Mode on gets the orders and reads along.
  2. You travel to the scene. The story asks for things done in the world: reach a place, speak with a named NPC, kneel or salute, say a line aloud, gather the group, keep watch.
  3. Then comes the hold. Three of your group stand on the capture point for 180 seconds while the story plays out on screen.
  4. The other faction decides the ending. Hold the point and the story moves on to its next chapter. Lose it and the chain goes back to the start.

The chains

ZoneChainThe story
The BarrensFalse ColoursTwo crews are killing each other on Ratchet's neutral docks, and each swears the other started it.
Hillsbrad FoothillsThe Quiet HandSouthshore and Tarren Mill bleed each other over the supply roads while somebody else profits.
AshenvaleThe SleepersSomething is being done to the druids asleep in the barrow dens of Dor'Danil.
Stranglethorn ValeThe Colonel's ShareColonel Kurzen holds his compound against everyone, and supplies are vanishing on every trail.
Eastern PlaguelandsThe Long WatchFour ruined scout towers, the Argent Dawn in the middle, and both factions set on holding them.

Every chain is written twice, once for the Alliance and once for the Horde, so each side gets its own story over the same ground. That makes ten chains of two or three chapters each, and they start again with the weekly reset.

On WoW Forever the stories follow your level. A chain is offered once its zone starts no more than 5 levels above you, and lower zones stay open at any level. On retail every chain is open.

Also in RP Mode

  • Random run: the addon picks one of 15 story points where your side is needed and writes the trip there as a short adventure.
  • Story on screen: orders, arrivals and the hold itself are narrated as they happen, and your map pin follows the next step.
  • Journal: /contest journal reads back where you have been and how it ended.
  • Ranks nobody can fake: Wayfarer, Pathfinder and Chronicler are granted from signed, witnessed captures. You cannot claim one for yourself.

๐Ÿ“š Packed With Warcraft Lore

Leading an RP raid is easier when you know what you are talking about, so Contested carries its own lore library.

๐ŸŽญ Leader's Notes๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Zone Loreโš”๏ธ Factions and History
• The lore behind the chain you are leading
• Who is who among the NPCs you meet
• What is established lore and what the story adds
• Talking points for every chapter
• All 22 contested zones
• Every capture point and the places around it
• The people, the old stories and the older history
• What changed after Classic, for retail players
• Alliance and Horde as they stood in Classic
• The third parties: who stays neutral and why
• The First, Second and Third Wars
• Where those wars touch the zones you fight over

The library holds thousands of entries, checked against in-game quest text and Blizzard's own published lore. The group leader opens it with the Lore button on the Adventure panel or /contest lore.

The stories are set in the Classic era. Retail zones have changed since the Cataclysm, so on retail the leader's notes also say what is different today.

๐Ÿ“Š Pro-Tips

๐Ÿค Bring two friends

A capture only counts when three players from the same group hold the point together, for 180 seconds. No group yet? Open the Board, tick List me, and someone will pick you up. WoW is meant to be played with friends!

๐ŸŽญ Lead the scene

Open the leader's notes before you begin a chain. They tell you who the NPCs are and what really happened in the lore, so you can speak to it in your own words while the group plays the scene.

๐Ÿ‘€ Check on your points

A point nobody from your side visits starts to fade after 45 minutes. Swing by now and then to keep what you took.

๐Ÿ”€ Shift, then invite

Found a hot layer on the Board? Shift onto it, then use your saved team to invite everyone back. Your whole crew ends up on the layer that needs you.

๐Ÿค Community, Credits and Support

Contested puts the war, and the stories behind it, back in the contested zones. Grab your friends and go take a point.
