BetterJournal
A clearer path through your adventures.
Returning to a character with a full quest log? Starting your first adventure and wondering what to do next? BetterJournal brings your quests, objectives, and zone maps into one readable journal, with a movable sidebar to keep your next steps in view.
See where your quests belong, understand what each one asks of you, and build a questing interface that feels like your own.
Know where to go — and what to do
BetterJournal groups accepted quests by location and adds clear, colored action labels so you can scan your log at a glance.
Kill · Gather · Loot · Collect · Use item · Talk · Deliver · Escort · Explore · Interact · Craft · Learn · Reputation · Currency · PvP · Event · Other
Quests with mixed objectives can show multiple labels. Ready-to-turn-in and failed quests have their own status indicators, so you can distinguish a quest's progress from the work it involves.
- Keep your current area first and collapse locations you are saving for later.
- Search across titles, locations, objectives, quest text, and type labels.
- Filter by quest type, status, or tracking, then sort each location by type, level, or title.
- Read the full story in a dedicated details pane with instructions, objectives, available progress counts, and level or group information.
- Choose a label yourself when you want to override a quest's automatic classification.
Keep your next steps on screen
The persistent sidebar stays visible when you close the full journal. Drag its title to position it where it works for your UI, then lock it in place.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Left-click a quest | Select, track, and focus it |
| Right-click a quest | Open quest actions, including track/untrack and Abandon |
| Expand | Open the full journal on the focused quest |
| Click a location heading | Collapse or expand that group |
| Header collapse button | Reduce the sidebar to a small header |
Choose Tracked quests, All quests, or Current area independently of your full-journal filters. Show objectives for every quest, only the focused quest, or neither. Hide completed objectives and choose between Cards and Minimal row styles.
Abandon always opens the game's confirmation dialog. Selecting the menu option does not immediately remove your quest.
The Blizzard objective tracker starts collapsed while the sidebar is enabled. You can restore it through the sidebar menu; hiding the BetterJournal sidebar restores its previous collapsed state.
Explore the map inside your journal
Switch from Details to Zone Map to view the selected quest's zone without leaving BetterJournal.
- Zoom, drag to pan, and fit the whole map into the pane.
- Choose Wide view for a larger map or Split view to keep your quest list alongside it.
- Jump to Quest zone or My zone, browse connected maps, and switch available dungeon floors.
- See player and cursor coordinates, your player arrow, and optional party/raid markers.
- Left-click quest markers to focus a quest or right-click for its actions.
- Show all accepted quest markers, only the selected quest, or none.
- Use Place pin or Ctrl-click to set a waypoint, then Clear pin when you are done.
Selecting another quest follows its location when available. Routine journal updates preserve your manual map browsing and zoom. An original Blizzard map button remains close at hand.
Waypoints use the game's shared user pin, so placing a new one replaces your previous waypoint.

Beta compatibility and quest data
Built for WoW Forever Beta 1.60.1.69977. Other WoW versions are not currently verified, and the new map view still needs in-game validation on this beta client.
Quest labels and locations use information supplied by the game. Some labels are refined using English objective wording; gathering and looting cannot always be distinguished, so Collect and Other provide fallbacks. Manual label overrides are available. The interface is currently in English.
Map markers appear only when the client provides usable coordinates. Maps retain normal exploration visibility, and quests without a supplied map location fall back to your current area. BetterJournal does not calculate optimized quest routes.
The original quest log remains available for rewards and native quest actions. Use quest items from your bags or the Blizzard tracker; BetterJournal's sidebar focuses on quests rather than achievement or scenario tracking.
If you encounter a problem, include the exact error, what you were doing, your client build, and the output of /bj status in your report.
