Belphie’s Quest Log

Belphie's Quest Log replaces the quest log with one that tells you where to go, what a quest leads to, and what your log is worth against your next level.

What it adds

  • An objective tracker that replaces Blizzard's, and suppresses Blizzard's while it is showing rather than stacking two trackers in one corner.
  • Map popups and waypoints for your tracked quests.
  • Quest giver and turn-in locations in tooltips — who gives it, who takes it, and where they stand.
  • Quest chains and prerequisites — what a quest leads to, and what you are missing before it will offer.
  • Quest experience on your XP bar, as its own lane rather than layered over rested, so you can see what handing in your log would be worth.
  • Auto-track new quests, optional and off by default.
  • Themed, movable, and customisable down to the individual colours.

Settings

/bql opens the settings. Everything above can be turned off.

What is turned off in this release, and why

Zone completion and the quest browser tabs are hidden. The database bundled with this addon is TBC data, and Forever is vanilla content with its own additions on top. That matters differently depending on the feature:

  • Quest giver locations, chains and prerequisites are on, because Forever keeps vanilla quest IDs and TBC's database contains every vanilla quest. This data is right for the content that makes up most of the game. Forever's own quests live above ID 90000 and exist in no database anywhere, so they get no tooltip — missing, rather than wrong.
  • Zone completion is off, because it shows counts, and a count built from the wrong set of quests is actively wrong rather than merely absent. "14 of 26" is a worse answer than no answer.
  • The tracker and the map layer need no database at all. Forever's server supplies quest POIs directly, which is what made the tracker possible in the first place.

Zone completion returns when the data underneath it is Forever's own. Building that data is what the companion addon Forever Scribe is for.

Fixed on the Forever beta

Settings that reset themselves were a client bug, and Blizzard fixed it in beta build 70009 on 25 September. If BQL lost your layout, colours or tracked quests before then, set them once more and they will stay.

Requirements

BLib is required — the launcher should fetch it for you. Questie is optional: if it is loaded, BQL uses its runtime data where that is better than the bundled database.

Installing by hand rather than through the CurseForge app? Download BLib too. WoW will show BQL greyed out with a missing-dependency note until you do.

Version support

Built for and used on WoW: Forever. TBC Anniversary is not a development target and will receive no further work.
