Battle Voices
Did you know your character actually has a voice?
Throughout World of Warcraft, NPCs are constantly talking to us—but our characters rarely get the opportunity to talk back.
The interesting part is that many of those voices already exist. World of Warcraft contains a huge collection of player-character voice lines: greetings, farewells, acknowledgements, reactions, and other dialogue that is rarely heard during normal gameplay.
Battle Voices was created to put those voices to use.
Originally conceived as a way to make characters more vocal during combat, the project grew into something broader while I explored the voice files available in the game. There was an opportunity to make our characters feel like actual participants in the world rather than silent observers.
The current version of Battle Voices focuses on NPC interactions, quests, ambient dialogue, and immersion in World of Warcraft: Forever.
Current Features
Your character can respond naturally when:
Talking to vendors
Visiting bankers
Using the Auction House
Speaking with class and profession trainers
Visiting innkeepers
Speaking with weapon masters
Using flight masters
Accepting and completing quests
Adventuring or resting in the world through occasional ambient dialogue
Different interactions use appropriate greetings, farewells, acknowledgements, and reactions from the voice files belonging to your character.
The system is intentionally designed to be subtle. Battle Voices isn't meant to make your character constantly talk—it adds occasional responses where they naturally make sense.
Character Support
Battle Voices currently supports the playable race and gender combinations included in this initial World of Warcraft: Forever release.
Support for additional characters and voice sets will continue to be added as the addon develops.
Volume
Battle Voices uses World of Warcraft's Dialog audio channel.
To make Battle Voices louder or quieter, open:
Options → Audio → Dialog
and adjust the Dialog volume slider.
There is currently no separate Battle Voices volume control.
Future Plans
This is an early version of Battle Voices, and the current focus is establishing a solid foundation for character interaction and immersion.
Future updates may expand Battle Voices with:
More NPC and world interactions
Additional situational and ambient reactions
Class-specific voice interactions
More context-aware character responses
Expanded uses for the many player-character voice lines already present in the game
Combat reactions, returning to the idea that originally inspired Battle Voices
The long-term goal is to make your character feel increasingly connected to the world without turning the addon into constant chatter.
There are a surprising number of character voice lines already sitting inside World of Warcraft.
Battle Voices gives your character a chance to finally use them—and talk back.
