World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard’s own new branch of WoW built around the original Azeroth, announced at BlizzCon 2026 and launching November 4, 2026. It is not a private server. During the beta it installs to its own _classic_beta_ folder, separate from Classic Era, and runs on the same modern UI architecture as current retail WoW rather than the older Classic Era client, which is why addons built for regular Classic Era do not automatically carry over. This page covers addons built or confirmed to work for WoW Forever specifically.
What is different about addons on WoW Forever
Forever runs on the same UI architecture as modern WoW rather than the Classic Era client, and Blizzard has confirmed it carries over the addon restrictions introduced in the Midnight expansion, including what the API calls secret values. In practice, this means certain combat information, such as health and unit data, can be shown on screen but not read, compared, or totaled up by addon code. Addons built around that kind of calculation, such as traditional damage meters and some boss mod features, need to be rebuilt around the new restrictions rather than simply copied over from Classic Era. Interface, questing, bag, map, vendor, and tooltip addons are not affected by this and work the same way they always have.
Because Forever is still in beta, Blizzard changes the client regularly, and an addon that works today can break after the next update. Regular Classic Era addons are not guaranteed to load correctly, so look for a version labeled for Forever specifically before installing anything.

How to install WoW Forever addons
- Download the addon as a .zip file, making sure it is built or confirmed for Forever rather than standard Classic Era.
- Extract it with 7-Zip, WinRAR, or the extractor built into Windows.
- Open your WoW installation folder, then _classic_beta_, then Interface, then AddOns. This is a different folder from regular Classic Era, so double-check you are not installing into the wrong client version.
- Move the extracted folder into AddOns. The folder containing the .toc file needs to sit directly inside AddOns, not nested inside another folder.
- Start the game and click the AddOns button on the character selection screen to confirm the addon is enabled.
What addons cannot fully do on WoW Forever
Addons built around reading and calculating raw combat data, the way classic-style damage meters and some boss mod features do, run into Forever’s secret value restriction and cannot replicate that functionality the same way they do on Classic Era or private servers. Blizzard has said the goal of this restriction is to stop addons from providing a competitive advantage from combat data, the same reasoning behind the Midnight addon changes this inherits from. It is a client-side restriction rather than something a simple addon update can work around, so expect a genuine rebuild rather than a quick patch from affected addons.
Blizzard’s base UI includes its own Damage Meter and Cooldown Manager, both real features shipped as part of the shared modern interface Forever runs on, which cover much of what those addons used to handle. Be skeptical of any third-party addon advertising full combat log support on Forever beyond what this restriction allows.
Keeping up with WoW Forever addon updates
Because Forever is in beta, client updates can change or break addons with little warning. Checking for a newer version after a patch is worth doing before assuming an addon is broken for good, and sticking to addons with an active Forever-specific build reduces how often this happens.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my regular Classic Era addons on WoW Forever?
Not reliably. Forever runs on a different client build, and some addons that work fine on Classic Era will not load or will behave incorrectly on Forever. Look for a version labeled for Forever before installing.
Do damage meters work on WoW Forever?
Not the way they did on Classic Era. Forever restricts how addons can read and calculate combat data, which is the restriction traditional damage meters are built around. Blizzard’s base UI includes its own Damage Meter and Cooldown Manager, which cover combat tracking without relying on an addon for it.
Why did my addon stop working after an update?
WoW Forever is still in beta, and Blizzard updates the client regularly. An addon that is not actively maintained for Forever can break when the client changes. Check for a newer build before assuming the addon is no longer usable.
