Wayline

Turn-by-turn directions for World of Warcraft: Forever.

Put a pin on the map and Wayline gets you there. It shows an arrow, the distance and one clear instruction at a time, such as "120 yds - Turn left" or "Take the Great Lift into Thousand Needles". A soft chime plays before each turn. For long trips, Wayline plans the quickest way over flight paths, boats, zeppelins, portals, your hearthstone and teleports, and it takes the flight for you.

Alpha. This is an early release. It works, but expect rough edges, and please report anything odd in the comments.

What it does

  • Clear, step-by-step guidance.
    • A small HUD shows the direction arrow, the distance to the next turn and the instruction.
    • Below that are the total distance left and an ETA, counting the boats and flights still ahead.
    • It says "Turn around" if you head the wrong way and "You have arrived" at the end.
  • Plans the whole trip. Wayline weighs these ways to travel and picks the quickest:
    • walking, through the real passes, tunnels, bridges, lifts and city gates between zones;
    • flight paths you know;
    • boats and zeppelins, including Forever's new ships:
      • the Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine shuttle;
      • the Menethil to Southshore to Auberdine loop;
      • Steamwheedle Port to Powderfuse Port in the Riverglades;
      • and the Feathermoon ferry;
    • the Deeprun Tram and the Rut'theran portal;
    • your hearthstone, hearthstone toys or Astral Recall;
    • class teleports and the engineering teleporters.
  • Takes the flight for you. When a route uses a flight path, open the flight master's map. The destination is ringed in gold and Wayline takes the flight. To choose yourself, hold Alt while you open the map.
  • Tells you what to do at every stop, for example "Take the boat to Auberdine" or "Use your Hearthstone to Goldshire". The arrow pauses while you ride, and guidance picks up again when you get off.
  • Follows the map pin and /way. Ctrl-click the world map to place Blizzard's pin and Wayline navigates to it. Move the pin and the route changes; remove it and the route stops.
  • Draws the route on the world map. Walking is gold, boats and other rides are blue, flights are purple.
  • Saves portals you take: step through one and press Save the portal I just took in the settings.

How to use it

  1. Ctrl-click the world map to place a map pin, or type /way 45.2 60.1. Add a zone name for somewhere else, for example /way Ironforge 25 8.
  2. Follow the arrow and the instructions on screen. If the trip needs a ride, the full route is printed in chat.
  3. On a route with a flight, open the flight master's map when you get there, and Wayline takes the flight.
  4. Type /nav to open the settings (also under Esc > Options > AddOns > Wayline, or in the minimap's addon menu).

Commands

CommandWhat it does
/way [zone] x y [name]Navigate there (x and y from 0 to 100). Only when no other addon (like TomTom) has /way; otherwise use /nav.
/nav [zone] x y [name]The same, always available
/navOpen the settings
/nav via [zone] x y [name]Add a stop to the end of the route
/nav clearClear the route (/nav stop and /way clear work too)
/nav listList the stops on the route
/nav skipSkip the stop you're heading for
/nav reroutePlan again from where you are
/nav portal [name]Save the portal you just stepped through
/nav hearthShow your hearthstone status
/nav helpList the commands in chat

Known limitations

  • It's an alpha. Please report bugs, with the output of Print my position (in the settings) if directions look wrong.
  • Within a zone, walking goes in a straight line towards the next stop, so the arrow may point you over a hill. Between zones Wayline uses the real passes, tunnels, bridges and gates. Roads are coming in a later version.
  • The Forever beta forgets addon data every session. The beta client doesn't load addons' saved data yet, so each login is a fresh start: your settings and HUD position, the flight masters Wayline has learned, learned zone crossings and saved portals reset. Open a flight master's map once per session on each continent so routes use your flights.
  • Travel times are estimates. Boats use average waiting and riding times; flight times are worked out from distance.
  • No guidance inside instances (the game hides your position there); guidance pauses while you fly.
  • English only for now.

Credits

  • Zone crossings: GoblinPS by CoffeeAndLoot (MIT), included unmodified with its licence.
  • Boat and zeppelin routes, portals, flight masters, towns and map data: Blizzard's World of Warcraft: Forever client data, read through wago.tools, and measurements in game.
