Description
WarBoard is a World PvP addon built to bring faction conflict back into the open world.
The goal is simple: give players reasons to return to zones that are usually forgotten, complete objectives, find enemy activity, respond to battlefield reports, place bounties, and help push their faction toward victory.
WarBoard is inspired by the old-school feeling of World PvP: doing quests or objectives somewhere in the world, running into the opposing faction, and watching a small fight grow as both sides begin calling for help.
One player starts an objective.
An enemy player shows up to stop them.
A few allies reinforce.
Then suddenly the zone has a fight.
That's what WarBoard is built around.
WarBoard is available for both Retail World of Warcraft and WoW Forever, with each version adapted to the systems and world it operates in.
⚔️ Retail & Forever
WarBoard's core idea remains the same between both versions, but several systems work differently.
Retail
Retail WarBoard is built around War Mode, Retail sharding, and the WarBoard cross-faction Blizzard Community.
Retail features a wider variety of objectives throughout Azeroth, its own WarBoard faction rank progression, and an economy using Gold and War Credit.
Gold is WarBoard's addon currency and is not real WoW gold.
War Credit represents player progression and contribution toward the ongoing faction campaign.
WoW Forever
WarBoard Forever is built around Forever's contested zones, Classic PvP ranks, and mega-server environment.
Forever currently includes 31 contested-zone objectives throughout the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.
Forever does not use WarBoard Gold.
Instead:
War Credit is a personal spendable currency.
War Contribution represents how much a player has contributed toward their faction during the current campaign.
Every War Credit earned also grants one War Contribution. Spending War Credit does not reduce War Contribution.
War Credit remains banked between campaigns, while War Contribution resets when a campaign ends.
Character ranks in WarBoard Forever are based directly on the player's Classic PvP rank provided by the game.
🏴 Campaigns
WarBoard campaigns are faction-wide conflicts between the Alliance and Horde.
Campaigns begin every Monday and Friday, giving both factions another opportunity to push for victory.
Throughout a campaign, players contribute through World PvP objectives, player kills, bounty hunting, and other WarBoard activities.
When the campaign ends, results are finalized and recorded in Campaign History.
WarBoard also tracks individual standings so players can see who contributed the most during each campaign.
Forever Warfronts
WoW Forever also features rotating Warfronts.
Two contested zones become active Warfronts every six hours.
Warfront zones provide increased rewards and are intended to concentrate players into specific parts of the world where faction conflict is more likely to develop.
Every eligible zone appears once before the Warfront rotation is shuffled again.
⚔️ Objectives
WarBoard adds repeatable World PvP objectives throughout the world.
Objectives are designed to create reasons for players from both factions to enter the same areas and fight over them.
Retail Objectives
Retail includes several types of objectives, including:
- Enemy player kills
- Enemy NPC kills
- Faction disruption objectives
- Special assignments
- Other zone-specific World PvP activities
Objectives can reward Gold and War Credit.
Forever Objectives
Forever currently uses straightforward contested-zone objectives:
Kill 10 opposing-faction players in the objective zone.
The first daily completion rewards 50 War Credit.
Afterward, the objective remains repeatable for 5 War Credit per completion.
When the zone becomes an active Warfront, those rewards are doubled.
☠️ Bounties
WarBoard allows players to place bounties on opposing-faction players, accept contracts, track targets, and hunt them for rewards.
Multiple contracts can be placed on the same target, increasing the total value of the bounty.
Retail Bounties
Retail bounties use WarBoard's Gold currency and integrate with Retail's WarBoard progression systems.
Forever Bounties
Forever bounties use War Credit.
Bounty cost and reward increase based on the target's Classic PvP rank.
For example:
Civilian: 500 War Credit to place / 250 War Credit reward
Rank 5: 3,000 War Credit to place / 1,500 War Credit reward
Rank 14: 7,500 War Credit to place / 3,750 War Credit reward
Successful bounty claims also award War Contribution.
Forever bounty tracking reports a target's last known zone rather than providing precise live coordinates.
📡 Intelligence Feed
Information can be just as valuable as force.
WarBoard gathers battlefield information and provides alerts that can help players locate enemy activity, reinforce allies, intercept hostile players, and discover emerging World PvP hotspots.
Depending on the version of WarBoard, reports may include:
- Enemy activity
- Active objectives
- Bounty activity
- Ongoing battles
- Warfront activity
- Shard information
- Faction presence
The goal is not to create the battle automatically.
It is to help players find where one may already be starting.
🔥 Kill Streaks
WarBoard tracks player Kill Streaks and synchronizes Kill Streak standings between players.
Kill Streak leaderboards provide another way for active World PvP players to compete and build a reputation during a campaign.
🌐 Networking
WarBoard uses addon communication to synchronize campaign data, bounties, activity, leaderboards, and other information between players.
Retail Networking
Retail WarBoard uses the WarBoard Blizzard Community as an important part of its cross-faction communication network.
Forever Networking
Cross-faction Blizzard Communities are currently unavailable on Forever.
WarBoard Forever therefore uses faction-local WBRD channels for same-faction communication.
Cross-faction information can currently be relayed through Battle.net friend bridges when an online WarBoard player has a Forever Battle.net friend playing the opposite faction.
WarBoard also supports cached store-and-forward synchronization, allowing players to preserve and relay board information through the network.
Additional methods of improving cross-faction synchronization are being explored.
🧭 Shard Matcher
WarBoard includes tools for identifying where World PvP activity is occurring.
Retail
The Shard Matcher helps players identify WarBoard areas where both factions have been detected on the same shard.
Players can then contact same-faction players on that shard for an invite.
This helps reduce some of the frustration caused by Retail's sharding system by making active conflict easier to locate.
Forever
Forever includes its own local shard detection and Shard Matcher support adapted to Forever's server environment.
WorldDefense-style reports can also include the reporting shard ID.
🏆 Campaign History & Leaderboards
Every campaign leaves a record.
WarBoard tracks campaign outcomes and battlefield statistics through its Campaign Results and leaderboard systems.
Depending on the version, players can view standings for areas such as:
- Campaign Contribution
- Player kills
- Bounty activity
- Kill Streaks
- Faction campaign results
Completed campaign results can be reviewed after the campaign has ended.
🛡️ Anti-Cheat & Abuse Prevention
WarBoard includes systems designed to protect its World PvP and bounty mechanics from abuse.
On Retail, this includes detecting certain suspicious behaviors involving combat escapes, unintended mechanics, and other actions that may interfere with legitimate bounty claims or World PvP encounters.
Additional validation is also used throughout WarBoard's networking and synchronization systems to reduce invalid or duplicate data.
WarBoard is built around the idea that fights and player actions should have consequences, and its verification systems are intended to keep its progression and bounty systems as reliable as possible.

What WarBoard Is About
World PvP often starts small.
A player begins an objective.
An enemy tries to stop them.
A bounty target gets spotted.
A battlefield report goes out.
A few players arrive.
Then a few more.
WarBoard gives players reasons to go back into the world, reasons to find the opposing faction, and reasons for those fights to matter.
Come join WarBoard and help push your faction toward victory.
