Quick Group

Smarter open-world quest grouping for World of Warcraft: Forever

Quick Group is a lightweight matchmaking addon designed specifically for World of Warcraft: Forever.

Forever's phasing can make finding other players for open-world quests more difficult than simply looking around. Players working on the same objectives may be nearby, in another phase, already looking for a group, or using Quick Group themselves.

Quick Group helps bridge that gap by discovering potential players, comparing quest and location information when available, and helping compatible players form temporary questing groups.

The goal is simple:

Go where your quest takes you. Find players doing the same thing. Group up.

Smart Quest Matching

When Quick Group discovers another Quick Group user, it can exchange information needed to determine whether grouping makes sense.

Quick Group considers things such as:

  • Your current location
  • Active and incomplete quests
  • The other player's location and quest information
  • Current party status
  • Whether there is room in the group

Having the same quest somewhere in your quest log isn't enough. Quick Group is designed to identify players who are actually relevant to what you're doing right now.

Completed quests are not considered matches.

Multiple Ways to Find Players

Quick Group isn't limited to a single discovery method.

It can discover or learn about players through supported in-game communication, nearby players, existing groups, guild activity, and other Quick Group users. Once another Quick Group user is discovered, the addons can exchange additional information silently using WoW's addon communication system.

Quick Group can also recognize simple grouping requests in public chat, such as:

inv
invite
lfg
looking for group

A chat request is treated as an indication that the player wants a group—not proof that they're relevant to you. Quick Group still uses available location and discovery information before automatically acting on it.

This helps prevent an LFG from the other side of a zone from becoming an unwanted invitation.

Grouping Modes

Auto

Designed for players who want grouping to happen with minimal interruption. Quick Group can automatically group with compatible Quick Group users and relevant nearby players looking for a group.

Ask

Quick Group handles discovery but lets you decide before forming or joining a group.

Pause

Temporarily stops matchmaking and automatic grouping while leaving Quick Group available for later.

Offline

Takes Quick Group off the discovery network entirely without disabling or unloading the addon. Use this when you don't want Quick Group communicating with other users during that session.

Temporary Quest Groups

Quick Group can manage parties that Quick Group itself creates in Auto mode.

For these temporary questing groups, you can choose how long Quick Group should wait after you leave the relevant quest area before leaving the party:

  • 30 seconds
  • 60 seconds
  • 120 seconds
  • Never

You'll receive a warning before Quick Group leaves the group, and returning to the quest area cancels the pending leave.

Switching out of Auto mode also prevents Quick Group from automatically leaving the party.

Quick Group does not take control of groups you joined normally, dungeon groups, raids, or other parties it didn't create and manage.

Loot Preferences

Auto groups can use your preferred loot setting:

Group Loot or Free For All

Quick Group only attempts to apply this preference when it created/manages the group and you are the party leader. It won't change the loot rules of someone else's group.

Party Announcements

Quick Group can optionally announce meaningful grouping actions to the party, such as when it invites a player.

These announcements are intentionally limited to actual group-forming activity rather than filling party chat with scanning, discovery, or matchmaking messages.

Party announcements can be disabled in Quick Group's options.

Discovery & Phasing

Forever's phasing is one of the primary reasons Quick Group exists—and also one of the challenges an addon like Quick Group has to work around.

Quick Group uses multiple discovery methods rather than assuming every relevant player will be physically visible to your client. Some discovery capabilities depend on the communication features currently available in World of Warcraft: Forever.

Discovery will continue to evolve as Forever's addon environment develops and more Quick Group users enter the world.

Quick Group Options

Quick Group integrates with WoW's addon settings and organizes its options into four sections:

General — basic Quick Group behavior and announcements
Auto — automatic grouping, loot and temporary-group behavior
Discovery — controls for supported and experimental discovery methods
Diagnostics — communication and peer information useful for testing and troubleshooting

Quick Group also includes a minimap button for convenient access.

Use:

/quickgroup

to open Quick Group directly.

Built for Forever

Quick Group isn't intended to turn open-world questing into a dungeon finder.

It's meant to make the world work a little better when phasing gets between players who would otherwise naturally group together.

There are no external accounts, matchmaking servers, websites, or services required. Quick Group works through the capabilities provided by World of Warcraft and the Forever addon environment.

Find each other. Group up. Finish the quest. Keep moving.

Forever Beta

Quick Group is being actively developed and tested specifically for World of Warcraft: Forever.

Forever itself is still evolving, including portions of its addon and communication environment. Some Quick Group functionality may therefore change as Blizzard updates the client and supporting services.

Feedback and bug reports are especially useful for player discovery, phasing, quest matching, automatic grouping, and communication between Quick Group users.
