*** THE BEST CROSS FACTION TRANSLATOR ***
# PVPTaunt: Automatic BG/Arena Messages + Cross-Faction Chat (WoW Classic Addon)
By Steve Vun on the wow forever beta on horde atm for testing
PVPTaunt adds personality to your **WoW Classic Battlegrounds/Arenas** by automatically sending messages at key moments. It also includes a **cross-faction “translation” system** that helps the opposing team understand what you’re saying.
---
## Key Features
### ✅ Automatic Victory Taunts
When you **defeat an enemy player in a Battleground**, PVPTaunt automatically sends a message from your selected list.
### 💀 Dramatic “Last Words”
When your health drops to **15%** in a Battleground, PVPTaunt can automatically send a final message—so you go out with style.
### 🗣️ Cross-Faction Translation (Enemy Can Read It)
PVPTaunt includes a built-in system that attempts to make your automated messages **readable to the opposite faction**.
- Uses a **richer character set** and **clearer word spacing** than similar addons (like Hermes)
- Results in “translated” messages that look more distinct and are easier to read (see comparison images)
Expanded translation mappings compared with Hermes Wrath:
- Orcish: +10 new letter mappings (24/26)
- Common: +4 new letter mappings (24/26)
- Taurahe: +8 new letter mappings (26/26)
- Gutterspeak: +5 new letter mappings (24/26)
- Zandali: +3 new letter mappings (20/26)
- Thalassian (12/26)
- Darnassian currently uses Common (24/26)
- Dwarvish currently uses Common (24/26)
- Gnomish currently uses Common (24/26)
- Alliance Skyborn Common (24/26)
- Horde Wind Skyborn Orcish (24/26)
Taurahe’s mappings are retained, but Tauren currently use Orcish as its translation is better.
---
## Customization
- Toggle **Victory Taunts** and **Last Words** independently
- Choose **Positive (sportsmanlike)** or **Negative (taunting)** preset lists
- Or edit the lists completely in the GUI
- Set message channel (**Say**, **Yell**, etc.)
- Configure cooldowns
- Optional: auto-screenshot on **Victory** or **Last Words**
---
## Battleground-Only (On Purpose)
Automatic triggers (Victory / Last Words) only run **inside Battleground instances**.
This keeps behavior consistent and avoids potential UI/security issues that can happen in the open world.
Manual Translation Anywhere:

===========================
A Brief History of WoW Cross-Faction Translation
PvPTaunt builds on more than 20 years of players experimenting with World of Warcraft's faction language system.
2004–2006 — The pioneers: Almost immediately after WoW launched, players began reverse-engineering how Common, Orcish and the other racial languages were scrambled. Projects such as BabelFish, Universal Translator, and the Project Azeroth language research documented predictable input → output mappings. By 2005, players were already brute-forcing character combinations, collecting translation tables, and discussing a database/UI that could automatically construct readable cross-faction messages. Blizzard discouraged addons that bypassed the faction language barrier at the time.
2005–2010s — The knowledge survives: Translation tables and famous phrases such as 101 101 → ZUG ZUG and encoded versions of “me love you” spread through WoW forums, roleplaying addons, private servers, and projects such as Total RP. Players continued refining and preserving these mappings long after the original Vanilla research.
2019 — Hermes: Steve Redka's Hermes/CommonOrcish brought the old concept into WoW Classic in a clean automated form: give the addon readable text and it chooses characters and syllables that Blizzard's own language system transforms into something the opposing faction can understand.
2023 — Hermes continues: Later maintainers expanded and adapted Hermes for Wrath, Classic Era and additional racial languages, preserving and extending the translation system.
2025–present — PvPTaunt: PvPTaunt began with that Hermes foundation and expanded it specifically for PvP communication. New mappings have been discovered through direct receiver-side testing, incomplete language alphabets have been extended, and portions of the old tables have been independently rebuilt and verified against modern WoW clients.
PvPTaunt therefore owes a debt to the players and addon authors who spent decades decoding WoW's faction languages — from the anonymous forum testers and Project Azeroth researchers of Vanilla, to BabelFish and Universal Translator, to Steve Redka and the later Hermes maintainers.
Credit to everyone who came before and helped turn WoW's “gibberish” into something we could understand.
