GoblinPlates
GoblinPlates is an old-school World of Warcraft nameplate addon built for War Mode and PvP combat, while remaining fully useful in Mythic+ and general PvE content.
GoblinPlates was designed around fast combat triage: identifying important units, judging range, tracking health and absorption, recognizing casts and relevant auras, and keeping your current target immediately distinguishable in crowded fights.
Rather than requiring you to configure every individual element yourself, GoblinPlates adapts important nameplate information to your class, specialization, talents, and role.
Important Retail Restrictions
GoblinPlates is built around the information World of Warcraft permits addons to access. Retail WoW deliberately restricts certain unit, aura, health, range, and nameplate information, particularly during combat and instanced content.
Known restrictions include:
- Addon-controlled friendly nameplates are forbidden inside dungeons and raids. GoblinPlates cannot replace or customize friendly nameplates in those instances.
- Friendly nameplate customization remains available in battlegrounds.
- During combat, some aura details are protected even though Blizzard can still display their icons.
- GoblinPlates can display the total amount of active absorption, but Retail does not expose a reliable breakdown of which shield contributed each portion.
- Magical, physical, and general absorbs therefore cannot always be distinguished accurately during combat. Debating about allowing OOC display.
- Some hostile-unit, range, health, and line-of-sight information may be concealed or returned as protected values.
- Information hidden by the game client cannot be recovered or inferred with complete reliability.
GoblinPlates uses Blizzard-supported secure rendering wherever required. It does not attempt to bypass combat protections or expose information the client has made unavailable.
Features
- Compact Combat Nameplates keep important information visible without covering the battlefield.
- Gradient Health Bars display health percentage, current health, and total absorption.
- Class-Tuned Range Checking uses your class, specialization, talents, and available abilities to provide useful distance feedback and fade distant units.
- Target Emphasis makes your current target immediately distinguishable.
- Threat Indicators provide quick visual feedback for current threat state.
- Custom Cast Bars display active casts, channels, interrupt information, and protected-cast states.
- Aura Tracking supports Smart, All, Buff, Debuff, HoT, and Off modes.
- Healer Aura Support prioritizes class-appropriate dispellable debuffs and player-applied HoTs on friendly nameplates where Retail permits them.
- Unit Information includes level, reaction, PvP status, and other immediately useful combat information.
- Classification Artwork gives Rare, Rare Elite, Elite, Boss, and World Boss units distinctive appearances.
- Quest Markers make relevant quest targets easier to identify.
- Role-Aware PvP Scaling automatically adjusts friendly and enemy nameplate emphasis for healing specializations.
- GoblinFrames Integration provides optional class-resource functionality when GoblinFrames is installed.
- Built-In Diagnostics provide copyable support and performance information without automatically uploading or transmitting any data.
Designed Around What You Need to Know
GoblinPlates is not designed around making you configure every individual piece of information.
Its guiding question is simple:
What does your current class, specialization, and role need to know?
That design philosophy came directly from War Mode and PvP, where useful information needs to be recognized quickly and unnecessary information can obscure what actually matters.
Range behavior, nameplate emphasis, aura presentation, cast information, threat information, and other nameplate elements adapt automatically to your character and the information available from the game client.
The same combat-first approach carries naturally into battlegrounds, arenas, dungeons, Mythic+, raids, and general open-world PvE.
The goal is to keep useful combat information immediately visible without turning every nameplate into a giant UI panel or requiring you to rebuild your setup every time you change characters, specializations, or content.
