Having issues?
GearDuck is a lightweight World of Warcraft: Forever addon that takes the guesswork out of gearing. By calculating a "Power Level" from editable, class-based stat weights, it instantly tells you if a new drop is an Upgrade, Sidegrade, or Downgrade compared to what you currently have equipped.
Built specifically for WoW: Forever Beta 1.60.1 (Interface: 16001), GearDuck uses the modern tooltip API to keep your game running smoothly.
✨ Core Features
- At-a-Glance Upgrades: Shows a small up-arrow on item icons in your bags, quest rewards, mail, and vendors when an item is an upgrade. Integrates seamlessly with default Blizzard bags and Baganator!
- Smart Detection: Automatically detects your current class and active talent tree to apply the correct weight profile.
- Comprehensive Comparisons: Rings, trinkets, and one-handed weapons show separate comparisons for each slot. Two-handed weapons automatically compare against both of your equipped weapon slots combined.
- Smart Eligibility: Checks weapon and armor eligibility using explicit Classic rules (including level-20 polearm training, level-40 armor unlocks, and Shaman 2H talent). Unusable items cleanly display
Cannot Use. - Deep Calculations: Factors in supported racial weapon skills, weapon-specific talent effects, weapon DPS/speed, and shows separate comparisons for weapons with and without their enchants.
⚙️ Configuration & Tuning
GearDuck is ready out-of-the-box, but fully customizable. Use /gd options or navigate to Options → AddOns → GearDuck to tune it to your exact needs.
- Custom Weights: Edit values for Strength, Agility, Stamina, Intellect, Spirit, Hit, Crit, Attack Power, Spell Power, Weapon DPS, Weapon Speed Preference, and more. (Positive speed weights favor slower weapons; negative values favor faster weapons).
- Context Profiles: Supports switchable tooltip profiles for Questing, Raid, and PvP.
- Hit Caps: Configure separate physical and spell hit caps for each context. GearDuck automatically subtracts recognized talent hit bonuses and accounts for dual-wielding caps.
🛠️ Advanced: Manual Effects & Set Bonuses
Since tooltip text can't always provide a reliable average value for unique procs or use effects, GearDuck lets you assign manual values on the fly:
- Item Procs: Hover an item and type
/gd itembonus 12to add 12 Power Level to its score. (Clear with/gd itembonus clear). - Enchant Procs: Hover an enchanted weapon and type
/gd enchantbonus 12to value the proc. - Set Bonuses: Hover a set item, use
/gd debugto find its set ID, and assign a threshold value (e.g.,/gd setbonus 2 15applies 15 Power Level when you have 2 pieces equipped).
