ChatQuell

ChatQuell quietly removes repetitive messages from World of Warcraft: Forever chat. It includes useful ready-made filters, lets you add your own in a few seconds, and keeps a temporary Hidden chat list so you can always see what was removed and why.

Everything stays on your computer. ChatQuell never sends messages, reports players, or changes what anyone else sees.

Start here

Open Filters to see everything ChatQuell can hide. Layer requests is on by default and catches common Asmon, Olympus, and generic layer-invite requests without hiding ordinary conversation about those names.

To make your own filter:

1. Click Add filter.
2. Enter a word or phrase.
3. Click Save filter.

That is all most filters need. New filters hide matching messages in public chat. Open Advanced options only if you want to keep a phrase visible, match a player's name, or use Flexible matching for shorthand, reordered words, and small typos.

Use Change to choose public chat types. Private & group chat is kept separate and off by default so a broad filter cannot quietly hide important whispers or group coordination.

See what was hidden

Open Hidden chat to browse recent filtered messages. Each entry shows the message preview, player, chat type, time, and the filter responsible. These previews stay in memory only, are limited to 100 entries, and disappear when you reload or log out. Clear history removes them immediately.

Ready-made filters

• Layer requests — on by default.
• Guild recruitment — optional.
• Services and boosts — optional.
• Repeated trade posts — optional.

Each ready-made filter can be turned on or off. Choose Edit phrases to tune its individual phrases.

Matching choices

• Exact phrase finds the phrase after chat formatting, punctuation, letter case, and repeated spaces are normalized.
• Flexible matching catches common shorthand, reordered words, filler, and one small typo in a meaningful word.
• Keep visible takes priority over hide filters, which is useful for an important phrase or player that overlaps a broader filter.

Use Try it while editing to check a sample with the same matching ChatQuell uses in chat. If a message cannot be checked safely, it stays visible.

Either command opens or closes ChatQuell. The window's close button also closes it.

Privacy and safety

ChatQuell saves only your filter settings and window position. Hidden messages, player names, history counts, and test samples are never written to SavedVariables. There is no network connection, telemetry, cloud list, auto-reply, or moderation feature.

Filtering is local and deliberately fails open: if ChatQuell cannot safely inspect a message, the message remains visible.

Compatibility

Current version: 0.2.0. Built for World of Warcraft: Forever 1.60.1 with interface versions 16001 and 16000. ChatQuell is not intended for other WoW clients.

Reporting a problem

Use the project comments. Include your Forever build number, the chat type, and the shortest safe example that reproduces the problem. Please do not post private chat or account information.
