By default, normal Latin-script chat stays visible while Russian/Cyrillic, Korean, Chinese/Han, Japanese/Kana and other non-Latin writing systems are hidden.
You can change every group independently from the minimap settings panel.
How language detection works
Distinct writing systems such as Cyrillic, Hangul, Kana and Han can be detected directly from Unicode script ranges.
English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese all share the Latin alphabet. Normal WoW chat does not provide a reliable real-world language tag for each player message, so these languages use conservative best-effort word/character detection. Short or unclear Latin text is assigned to Ambiguous Latin instead of being aggressively guessed.
Japanese text containing Hiragana or Katakana is detected as Japanese. Kanji-only Japanese cannot be reliably distinguished from Chinese Han text by script alone, so Kanji-only messages are handled by the Chinese/Han group.
Commands
/flf— open settings/flf on— enable filtering/flf off— disable filtering/flf status— show current status/flf reset— restore default settings/flf test <text>— test how a message is detected
