Captain’s Log

Captain's Log is a parchment book that fills itself in while you play. You don't have to do anything: it records what happens and turns it into pages you can look back through. Open it with /log or from the addon compartment button on the minimap.

Each character has their own book.

Log

• A timeline for each day of everything that happened: places you travelled to, creatures you killed and what they dropped, quests accepted and completed, people you met, level-ups, deaths and dungeon runs.
• Daily totals: time played, kills, experience gained, and money earned and spent.
• A notes box for each day, so you can write down anything you want to remember.
• It shows you exactly what you got done in a session, and lets you look back at any earlier day.

Bestiary

• Every creature you meet gets an entry: its level, type and rank (elite, rare, boss), and when and where you first met it.
• How many you've killed, how many times it has killed you, the zones you hunt it in, and a map showing where you killed it.
• Every item it has dropped for you, with drop rates worked out from the corpses you've looted.
• What it's like to fight: what it's immune to, what it resists, what damage it deals, how hard and fast it hits in melee, whether it casts spells, which debuffs it has put on you, and how often it dodges, parries or blocks.
• Kill counts on creature tooltips, so you can see your history with a mob just by hovering over it.
  It's a personal monster guide that builds up as you play, so you know what to expect before you pull, and where to farm a drop you want.

People

• Friendly NPCs you've met: their title, where to find them on the map, what they do (vendor, trainer, flight master and so on), which quests they gave you or took in, and what they sell.
• Search covers their wares too, so you can find who sold a particular item.

Quests

• Every quest you've accepted and completed, where you picked it up, who gave it to you and what it rewarded.

Lands

• Every zone you've visited: when you first arrived, what level you were, how long you've spent there, and your kills, quests and deaths in it.

Dungeons

• Each dungeon or raid run: how long it took, each boss with the time you killed it and how long the fight lasted, the people you ran it with, what you looted, and how many times you've been there.

Settings

• Turn tooltip kill counts on or off, announce new bestiary entries in chat, and choose the lowest item quality the daily log keeps.
