BIS – Best in Slot

See at a glance whether a piece of gear is an upgrade for you, without hovering, comparing or doing the maths.

BIS scores every item against a stat priority you control, compares it with what you're wearing, and tells you straight away. Hover an item for a clear verdict, or just look at your bags: upgrades get a green arrow.

Built for World of Warcraft: Forever.

Features

Clear upgrade verdicts on every tooltip

  • UPGRADE or DOWNGRADE, with the percentage difference against your equipped item.
  • Tells you exactly what it would replace, for example "Replaces: Poniard (Off-hand)".
  • Handles dual-wielding, rings and trinkets, and compares two-handers against both hands together.
  • A per-stat breakdown shows what you gain and lose, and why.

Green upgrade arrows, everywhere you look

  • Your bags, loot rolls and loot window.
  • Merchants, mail attachments and trade offers.
  • Quest rewards: the best upgrade is marked BEST, or SELL if none is an upgrade.
  • The inspect window: arrows on their gear, plus your score against theirs.
  • Choose the arrow's size and position, and the minimum improvement before it shows.

Stat priority you control

  • Reorder your stats from most to least valuable with simple buttons, or untick any you don't care about.
  • New lists start from a sensible preset for your spec (see the note below).
  • Save separate profiles for raid, dungeons, PvP or leveling.
  • Import and export priority lists as text to share with friends.
  • Optional weapon speed preference (slow or fast).

Only shows what your class can actually use

  • Ignores armor, weapons and shields you can't use, based on the game's own red "can't use" marking.
  • Won't suggest items above your level.

Upgrades in my bags

  • One window listing every upgrade in your bags, sorted by size, with what each replaces.
  • An Equip button on each (out of combat).

Gear check

  • Flags missing enchants and empty sockets, in tooltips and with a red marker on the character panel.
  • Socketed gem stats count towards item scores.
  • Tick which slots should be checked.

Class guide

  • Open it from a BIS Guide button on the character panel, the minimap button (middle-click), the options window, /bis guide, or a key binding.
  • Overview: your spec's description and mastery text from the game, your gear type, item level and gear score.
  • Stat priority: the order for your spec, with your real numbers: current percentages, what +100 rating is worth, and progress toward your goals.
  • Slot by slot: every slot with its item, item level, score, problems, upgrades in your bags and your weakest slot.
  • Gearing basics: how to read an item, weapons, rings and trinkets, enchants and gems, levelling tips, and role-specific advice.
  • My checklist, a notes box for each spec, and links to reputable guide sites.

Bags and loot tools

  • Safe to sell: a coin marks soulbound gear you can't use or that is clearly worse than what you wear. A vendor button sells them after you confirm.
  • Loot advisor: suggests Need, Greed or Pass on group loot rolls and highlights the button.
  • Compare items: any two items side by side, with the difference.
  • Gear progress: a chart of your gear score over time and a log of recent gear changes.

Stat targets

  • Set a percentage goal for crit, haste, mastery or versatility and see how close you are.
  • Tooltips preview what an item does to each goal, for example Crit 24.1% -> 26.3%.
  • Optionally value a stat less once you're above its goal.

Alerts and extras

  • A message, on-screen notice or sound when you loot an upgrade.
  • (upgrade) appears after item links in chat when an item would be an upgrade for you.
  • A gear summary with your gear score, weakest slot, and stat totals.
  • Your weakest slot is marked on the character panel.
  • A minimap button: left-click for options, shift-click for upgrades, right-click to switch profile.
  • /bis perf shows how much CPU BIS uses, and the heaviest addons you have loaded.

Getting started

  1. Install and log in.
  2. Type /bis to open the options window and check your stat priority. The default preset is a starting point.
  3. Hover some gear, or open your bags.

Good to know

  • The presets are starting points. They come from general community guidance, not simulations, and stat priorities change with patches, talents and gear. Adjust them to your build.
  • Enchants are checked for being present, not scored.
  • Stat values are estimates. BIS compares items by weighted stats. It doesn't simulate your character.
  • Auction house items show the verdict when you hover them, but don't get arrows yet.
  • BIS only reads item and equipment information. It doesn't automate any gameplay.

Feedback and bug reports

Comments are welcome. If something looks wrong, type /bis debug, reproduce the problem, and include any red error text in your report. Mention your class and spec too.
