BetterMessenger – a chat app for World of Warcraft: Forever

Stop scrolling through the chat frame for that one whisper. BetterMessenger collects your whispers, Battle.net whispers, guild, officer, party, raid and instance chat as conversations in one clean window – conversations on the left, speech bubbles on the right, input line at the bottom. Just like the messenger on your phone. Fully in English and German.

FEATURES

* Conversations instead of chat spam
  Every whisper partner, every Battle.net friend, your guild, officers, party, raid and instance chat get their own conversation with speech bubbles, sender names in class colours, date lines and timestamps.

* History that stays
  Messages are stored per character for 7 to 90 days (default 90) – log out, come back tomorrow, the conversation is still there.

* Unread counter
  Red badges per conversation and on the minimap button, plus the total in its tooltip. Opening a conversation marks it as read.

* Item links
  Shift-click an item while typing to link it into your message, exactly like in the normal chat. Links in the history are clickable.

* Reply where you read
  Enter or "Send" sends the message in the input line to the right channel – whisper, Battle.net, guild, officer, party, raid or instance. Nothing is ever sent by itself. During chat lockdown (e.g. boss encounters) your text simply stays in the input line.

* Made for Forever names
  Double names like Anna-Blerta stay complete; only your own realm suffix is removed, so replies always reach the right character.

* Three window styles
  Game default, classic dialog frame or plain – pick what fits your UI.

* Own minimap button
  Left-click opens the messenger, right-click opens the settings, drag to move. Uses LibDBIcon, so button collectors and data bars pick it up.

COMING FROM GUILDATLAS?

BetterMessenger is the messenger of GuildAtlas as a standalone addon – same window, same behaviour, without the map and guild features. On the first start of a character it takes over your stored GuildAtlas messenger history once (as a copy). Both addons can run side by side; if you use both, you can switch off the GuildAtlas messenger on its "Features" page.

/bm clear                    delete all stored messages of this character (confirm with /bm clear yes)
/bm minimap                  minimap button on/off
/bm minimap reset            move the minimap button back
/bm style game|classic|flat  window style (after /reload)
/bm debug                    information about names and realm for whispers
/bm options                  open the settings
/bm help                     list all commands

SETTINGS

Game menu → Options → AddOns → BetterMessenger, or right-click the minimap button: enable messenger, window style, days to keep, record guild chat, record group chat, minimap button, version line at login.

INSTALLATION

1. Download and unpack the zip.
   2. Copy the folder BetterMessenger to World of Warcraft<client folder>InterfaceAddOns
   3. Restart the game client completely – new addon folders are only picked up on a full restart.
   4. Make sure BetterMessenger is enabled under "AddOns" on the character selection screen.

GOOD TO KNOW

* All messages are stored only on your computer (saved variables BetterMessengerDB and BetterMessengerCharDB). Nothing is sent to other players except the messages you send yourself.
* Messages the game marks as protected during encounters cannot be read by addons and are skipped.
* Made for World of Warcraft: Forever (interface 16001).
