BetterNamePlates is a lightweight, opinionated nameplate addon for Mythic+, raids, and outdoor combat. It brings threat, dangerous casts, and important enemy effects into view with a compact appearance that works out of the box.

No profiles to import, no scripts to configure, and no Plater dependency. Install it, enable enemy nameplates, and play.

Features

• Readable nameplates: compact enemy bars, clear friendly names, health values, percentages, and enemy absorb shields.
• Threat at a glance: role-aware colors for tanks, healers, and damage dealers, with distinct colors for casters, minibosses, and bosses.
• Clear targeting: target arrows or a scratched highlight, mouseover borders, focus styling, and raid markers.
• Crowded-pull visibility: nameplate stacking to help keep enemies readable.

Know What to Interrupt

• Yellow interruptible casts and grey non-interruptible casts
• Spell icons, names, remaining cast time, and cast targets
• A green marker showing when your interrupt will become available
• Red feedback when a cast is interrupted
• Cast and channel directions matching Blizzard behavior

Keep Important Effects in View

• Your debuffs with duration timers
• Group-applied crowd control, including stuns, disorients, roots, and silences
• Important enemy buffs and buffs your character can purge
• Readable timers and distinct borders

Available aura features depend on the game client.

Make It Yours

Type /bnp to open the settings window, or find BetterNamePlates under Esc > Options > AddOns.

Adjust nameplate width and height, name size, debuff size, and target style. Open Colors & Fonts to customize enemy and threat colors with Blizzard's color picker, or choose one font for names, health text, and cast text. Expressway is included, alongside fonts available through your running client.

Changes apply immediately and are saved automatically. Colors and fonts each have their own reset button. Use /bnp reset to restore the default width, height, and name text size.

EZ Target

Want your target and casting enemies to stand out? Switch EZ Target on:

• Your target grows to 140% of normal size.
• Other casting enemies grow to 120%.
• Remaining enemies fade to 65% opacity.

Targets and casters stay fully opaque. Target size takes priority when your target is casting. Click EZ Target: On / Off anytime to switch between this mode and the normal appearance.

Getting Started

1. Install BetterNamePlates and enable it in your AddOns list.
2. Press V in game to show enemy nameplates if they are hidden.
3. Play with the defaults, or type /bnp to adjust them.

Commands

• /bnp — open or close settings.
• /bnp reset — restore default width, height, and name text size.

Supported Clients

Retail, Classic Era, Hardcore, Season of Discovery, Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary, Mists of Pandaria Classic, and WoW Forever.
