SkomsChatShield 1.0.0 (WoW 3.3.5a)

Hides spam in every chat channel: the political and recruiting messages that bots paste again and again in Global and the other channels. Install it, and the known spam is gone. Type /scs to change anything.

It hides the messages for you; it cannot stop other players from sending them.

What it hides

• Phrases (an editable list, with the spam bots seen on Warmane already in it). Capitals, punctuation, colours and links do not matter, and words are matched as whole words. A * at the start or the end of a phrase lets more letters follow: free gold* also hides "free golds". Lines that start with # are notes.
• Blocked players: a player caught by a phrase is blocked from then on, in every channel, so they cannot change the wording and get through. You can add or remove names yourself.
• Repeating: a player who sends the same message 4 times in 60 seconds is hidden for 15 minutes.
• Copy and paste: the same message from 3 different players within 30 seconds is hidden for 15 minutes (spam bots paste one text under many names).

Your own messages and your friends' are never hidden.

Streams and videos are fine. A message is never hidden just for containing a link. Messages with a twitch.tv, YouTube, Discord or similar address are also left out of the repeating and copy-paste checks, so a streamer can post their link and several friends can share the same video. The list of addresses is editable (/scs > Phrases > Always let through). Only a phrase from your list, or a blocked player, hides such a message.

Where

Channels (General, Trade, Global, LookingForGroup ...), say, yell, whispers, emotes and text emotes are filtered. Battleground, party, raid and guild chat are off by default and can be switched on.

See what was hidden

Blocked players are kept in the addon's own list. Switch on Also add blocked players to the game's ignore list (/scs > General, off by default) to put them on the built-in /ignore too (50 names at most). Unblocking removes only the names this addon added.

/scs > Log lists what was hidden since you logged in (the last 300, newest first): the time, the channel, who, the message and the reason (the phrase that matched, a blocked player, repeating, or copied by several players). /scs log 20 prints the last 20 in the chat, and a switch prints every hidden message live. Players caught only by repeating or copying are muted for a while and are not added to the blocked list, so the list can stay empty while messages are hidden.

Share your list

The phrases are plain text, one per line, in /scs > Phrases. Copy the box and send it to a friend or post it for the community; they paste it in their own box. Test shows what a pasted chat line would do. The same phrases work for any spam, not only the one above.

Commands

/scs options. /scs add <phrase>, /scs block <name>, /scs unblock <name>, /scs test <message>, /scs log [n], /scs stats, /scs on, /scs off.

Install

Put the SkomsChatShield folder in Interface\AddOns. The settings are shared by all your characters.
